Harry Radell – Fire Police

Kiel Hook & Ladder – Tower 343

Harry joined the Butler Fire Department in June of 1960.  He currently has 57 Years of Active Service for our Department and spent 22 of those years as one of the Chiefs of Fire Police.  Harry continues to be an Active Member of our Fire Police, who are tasked with directing traffic and keeping our members and others safe at all of our scenes.

Harry was born in New York State and moved to Butler in 1949.  Harry is also a Veteran, having served with the United States Coast Guard during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Following the war, Harry spent 29 years working for Coca Cola as a District Sales Manager.

Harry has 3 Children, one of whom is a Son that was at one time a Lieutenant with our Bartholdi Hose Company.  Harry also has 5 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.

Harry originally joined Butler Fire following many conversations with a neighbor and friend.  Since that day, he has never looked back.  He continues to serve at the age of 93 because of his interest in helping the Community, the Fellowship and the Brotherhood.  He also says that he has enjoyed being around the Department and has always felt that the members have been good to him.

Harry’s Late-Wife Lois was also a long-time member of the Butler Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a Former President of the New Jersey State Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

We are privileged to have had Harry as a member for 57 years and appreciate everything that he has done for us!

Until our next installment next week, Stay Safe!
