The Butler Fire Department currently operates two Dodge Durangos as chief/command vehicles. They are currently driven by the Department Chief (340) and the Deputy Chief (346).
Each of the vehicles is equipped with both High Band and Low Band radios. The Low Band Radios are on the dispatch frequency and High Bands are on the Police Department's frequency. This allows for communication between agencies, as well as with other Fire Departments and the First Aid Squad.
These two vehicles' main purpose is to arrive on the scene and establish or assume Command. This allows the crews to perform their duties while a Chief can look over the entire scene.
C340 is a 2008 Dodge Durango that has been the entirety of its time with us as a Command Vehicle. It was purchased new in 2008 to replace older Command Vehicles that were no longer operational.
340 is assigned to the Deputy Chief (B2) and is stationed with that Chief at their home to decrease their time to a scene. It is one of the vehicles that responds directly to a scene and generally will do an initial Size Up and take Command if they are the first Chief on scene.
At 16 years old, this Support Vehicle still responds to the majority of our calls throughout the year and is also on many of our Public Service/Community Events and Details.
It is currently located at the Carey Avenue Firehouse and being used as a Chase Vehicle for E342 as it also has a repeater to increase the abilities of our radio system. B2 is currently assigned FP349 as their response vehicle.
