Doug Morse Sr - Fire Police
Kiel Hook & Ladder - Tower 343 Doug Morse Sr joined the Butler Fire Department in 1956. He currently has 61 Years of Active Service for our Department. Doug continues to be an Active Member of our Fire Police and has been a well-known member of the Butler community dating back to his childhood. Doug grew up and lived with his family in Butler for all of his life. Much of his younger days were spent helping his father with various work around Morse Lakes in Bloomingdale, which the family owned at the time. His first structure fire was at the Rubber Mill Fire on Main Street which remains the largest fire in our history. Doug is a Veteran of the Armed Services, serving with the United States Air Force during the Korean War focusing in the Setup/Maintenance of Communication Cables and was Honorably Discharged in 1955. |
Following the war, Doug spent a large portion of his days working for the Butler Public School system's Maintenance Department with a focus in Plumbing and Field Maintenance. After retiring in 1997, Doug remained very active in the community including staying an Active Member of Butler Fire. Doug was a long-time Driver/Operator of the various apparatus Kiel Hook & Ladder has operated through the years, and made the switch to Fire Police in the last 10 years.
Doug married his late-wife Joan in 1958 and raised 3 children, and spent much of their time with their 9 Grandchildren. Doug originally joined the Department following in the footsteps of his father, Douglas T. Morse. The tradition continued through the years, with his son Doug Morse being an Active Member for 30 years and his grandson being the current Captain Morse also of the Kiel Hook & Ladder Company.
All of our members who have worked with Doug over the years have been extremely lucky to know him and to have learned from him over his 61 years as a dedicated member.
