Allen Courtney - Firefighter
Bartholdi Hose - Engine 342 Allen joined the Butler Fire Department in 1978 and is currently completing his 40th Year of Active Service. Al grew up in the Birmingham, Alabama area and has remained a life-long fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide as a result. He moved to Butler in 1973 and did what he could to help the Community. He spent time in the 1980's as a part of Butler's Borough Council as well as spending time in the 1990's as a Lieutenant for the Bartholdi Hose Company of our Fire Department. Al comes from roots of giving back to the Community and Nation, with family members involved in various Armed Services and First Responders dating as far back as once could look. Allen studied Business Education at Wagner University on Staten Island and was a part of the wrestling team whil in College. Following College, |
he worked several jobs, and eventually retired after spending 15 years in the Sales Department for the Coca Cola Beverage Company.
Allen has been married to his wife Jan for 44 years and together they have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Al's son Adam was also an Active Member of the Bartholdi Hose Company prior to joining the Armed Services and being deployed to the Middle East.
Prior to joining, Allen was an Associate Member and played on the Department Softball team. He was convinced by his uncle, John Lust, to put in an application to join become an Active Member. Allen was originally torn between joining the Bartholdi Hose Co and the Pequannock Engine & Hose Co, but eventually made the decision to join Bartholdi and has never looked back on that.
Allen says that with 40 years of Service in, he continues to respond to calls and attend meetings because he wants to serve the great Community of Butler, and he feels a Duty to his Country to help in the way that he can. He is a regular fixture on our Emergency calls, whether it is 3 am or 3 pm and no matter the weather.
We thank Al for his Dedicated Service since 1978 and look forward to working with him for years to come!
