Jim Soules - Fire Police

Kinney Hose - Engine 341

Thomas J Soules or Jimmy as he is known to most, joined the Butler Fire Department in 1956.  He currently has 61 Years of Active Service for our Department and spent 12 of those years as one of our Chiefs.  He was at the time, the youngest Chief in Butler Fire's history.  Jim continues to be an Active Member of our Fire Police and is a regular fixture around the Carey Ave Firehouse, which he was an integral part in the planning and building of.

Jim was born in West Milford and moved to Butler in the 1940s.  His first structure fire was at the Rubber Mill Fire on Main Street which remains the largest fire in our history.

Jim spent several years working in the Rubber Mill.  Following those years, he worked for Marrotta Scientific Controls  for over 40 Years.

Jim has 2 Children, 3 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren.  Many of his family members have been members of our Department over the years, including his Son, current Chief of Department Phil Soules.

Jim has been married to his wife Charlotte, who is a long-time member of our Ladies Auxiliary, for 66 Years.

All of our members who have worked with Jim over the years have been extremely lucky to know him and to have learned from him over his 61 years as a dedicated member.

Until our next installment, Stay Safe!
