Joe Herrmann - Captain

Joe joined the Butler Fire Department in January of 1995.  He currently has about 27 Years of Active Service for our Department and has spent many of those years as an Officer.  Joe is Currently Captain 1, which entails overseeing Rescue 341 and Engine 342 as his primary pieces of apparatus, as well as working with Captain 2 and the Lieutenants on Drills and Fireground Operations.  Prior to moving to Butler in 1995, Capt Herrmann was a member of the Bogota Fire Department for about 10 years.  His total time in the Fire Service is about 38 years, which is truly a remarkable feat!

Joe was born in Teaneck and grew up in Bogota.  He is a Bogota High School Graduate with the Class of 1984.  Joe is Currently the Logistics Manager for a Business in Wayne NJ.

Capt Herrmann was married to his wife Debra in 1994 and together have two Children, Ryan and Kaila.  Ryan has a Bachelor’s Degree in History and is currently finishing up a Master’s Degree.  Kaila is working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management with a Minor in Marketing and plans to Graduate in 2023.  Joe enjoys spending as much time with his family as he can whether it be via a Family Vacation or just being together in general.

Capt Herrmann originally followed in his Father’s footsteps when he joined the Bogota Fire Department in 1984.  His father was a member of Bogota Fire for about 20 years.  This truly sparked an interest in the Fire Service for Joe who decided to continue the Tradition.  Upon moving to Butler in 1995, Joe quickly decided to join Butler Fire.  He wanted to continue being a part of a Worldwide Brother/Sisterhood and continue his Journey as a Member of the Fire Service.

Capt Herrmann has remained a member of the Butler Fire Department for all these years because he still loves what we do and the opportunities that have presented themselves over the years as a member.  He also enjoys the fact that becoming a member of the Fire Service has allowed him to become part of a Family, not just the Butler Fire Department Family, but a family of Firefighters near and far.

Joe looks forward to continuing his service to the Borough of Butler and the surrounding communities.  We are very excited that for 2022, Captain Herrmann will be taking on a new role as the Battalion Chief for the Butler Fire Department.  Joe is also currently the President of the Butler Fire Department and will continue in the role in 2022.

We are privileged to have had Joe as a member for the past 28 years and appreciate everything he has done.  We look forward to continuing to see what he accomplishes in the future!

Until our next installment, Stay Safe!
